New to wire rope isolators? Start here
A wire rope isolator is an all-metal shock and vibration mount made from stranded stainless-steel cable looped between two retainer bars. As the cable flexes, the strands rub and slide against one another, dissipating energy — giving high damping (ζ ≈ 0.15) with no rubber, no oil and nothing that ages.
That construction is why they dominate the hardest environments:
- Temperature — −100 °C to +260 °C with no change in properties
- Environment — immune to salt spray, oil, ozone, UV and chemicals
- Life — no creep, no ageing, no maintenance; decades of service
- Dual duty — non-linear stiffness isolates small vibration and absorbs large shock
